Zest.

We learn from Aude, the bipolar decoratrice, that Elio the priapic llama is no more. He has been poorly for a few days and expired suddenly in the middle of the womens cooperative rose circle. The eight females in his harem seem to be quite unbothered by his passing. Aude thinks Elio was getting on for thirty which is seemingly a good age for a llama. The tobacco chewing ( and marijuana smoking ) lady with the buzz haircut, cargo shorts and black boots who operates the cement mixer has gone off to hire an excavator to move the body. She is also planning to extend the patio. 'The Font' deems it indelicate to inquire whether the two actions might be related.

Aude has brought over pots of paint and some scaffolding but is being cagey about when she'll actually start work on the drawing room walls. 'I'll have it finished by Easter' as specific a date as we can get. The mayor has heard nothing from the specialist builder about the swaying Jesus. Strong winds are forecast for Thursday. It seems probable that more swaying lies in store.

Through it all the PONs exude an irrepressible zest for life.

Are you far enough away to be immune from the noise the swaying much cause? A neighbouring house has just been incompletely swathed in plastic wrap and the noise in the middle of the very windy night was awful! I do hope you're not being similarly kept awake?

Have no fear, Plastic wrap, like much that is modern, is something that has not yet entered the villages stream of consciousness.

I can see the headline: Jesus holds sway in deepest, deepest France!

I am wondering how much a llama weighs.

Angus said...

I would reckon about the weight of two large rugby players.

'The Font' is right, best not to inquire too closely into the extension of the patio, and what lies beneath it.
We wonder - does the swaying Jesus sway to an inner beat? Do the ladies in the Women's co-operative seek Mme Bay out for their unique fashion style?

Angus said...

Mme Bay would never be seen in one of the Womens Cooperatives natural alpaca wool ponchos or tie-die tee shirts. Similarly the ladies of the cooperative are not big on chintz/toile turbans, outlandish costume jewellery or swathes of chiffon.

Who knew that a village of 60, united in quasi-Luddism, would harbor such divergent sartorial tastes?
I am a bit confused: Is Aude the one operating the cement mixer, or is that a colleague of hers?
Who is the proprietor of Elio?

The Womens Cooperative is in the next village. It used to be part of this village but its 37 inhabitants opted for independence in 1963 as a protest against big government. The Cooperative inhabits a series of buildings strung along the right hand side of the road. Their boundaries are marked by no less than 10 old zinc baths in which a variety of cactii and less well known species of shrubs have been 'naturalistically' planted. Aude, the decoratrice, does painting and hand loom weaving ( hence the presence of the llamas ). Her colleagues do upholstery, artistic woodwork ( carved 2 foot tall owls a speciality), organic eggs, wholemeal bread, painted furniture , tied died tee shirts and courses in communicating with the inner spirit and earth mother. They also play kettle drums made out of old metal barrels. On a still night we can sometimes hear them drumming away. Marijuana cultivation and consumption seems to be a large part of their life style. The lady with the cement mixer lays foundations. Angus is not generally welcome.

Sophie is looking especially cute this morning!

After reading today’s post and comments, I could only think, my goodness, the plot thickens.
Sophie’s nose is a delight.

No, I suppose not! But would swathes of chiffon add a certain pzazz to the alpaca ponchos !

Was "tied died" an intentional malapropism for a dyeing art? Beware a lady with a cement mixer should be treated with respect.

How refreshing to hear the Village news as we have the world news on in the background.

Well spotted. I'm still chuckling at the psychological insight. The buzz cutted lady thinks yours truly has 'bad karma' . The Font tells me not to worry. All males have bad karma.

Emm! Where in the world have you been? Missed you!

Even on a slow day, there is more excitement going on in you village! How ever do you keep up on all the gossip, uh, I mean news?
